[497] After Walton's mother married Andrew J Spear, he made the decision to try his fortune in the great state of Texas. He not only had the courage to begin this long and eventful career, but because of his strong determination, he was to accumulate great knowledge by his studious and scholarly abilities. He was just 16, with no horse of his own, when his mother packed his earthly belongings in a roll for the long walk to Texas which ended in Bell Co near Temple. Walton met and married Miss Emma Easterling of Bell Co during the early part of 1871. They had five children, she died in 1883. Within the following ten years, Rachel and Walton had their family consisting of two girls and two boys, all born in Bell Co. Even though they owned large tracts of land Walton felt the need for expanding his adventurous ambitions. After traveling through south Texas rather extensively seeking a suitable location, he fell in love with the Corpus Christi Bay area, a few miles from the village of Corpus Christi, in Neuces Co. He selected the land, returned to Bell Co and with Rachel, made the decision to move his family in 1895. Trains were running by this time and they made the move by train. They immediately built a lovely two story home on the edge of the bay. Walton and Rachel spent the rest of their lives there on Ocean Drive. Most of the children lived their lives out there, with grandchildren and great grandchildren still living in the area. Walton Alexander Clark spent his life as a rancher and farmer with the determination and drive that makes man struggle with destiny to build a successful life. He accomplished success that men dream of, using hard work with integrity to reach his goals. In time, he acquired large tracts of land along Ocean Drive and south of Corpus Christi. As each of his children matured, he presented them with a parcel of land for their own
start in life. In many instances he built them homes, school, churches and supported them generously. He established Aberdeen Cemetery. Walton was known as Farmer Clark. He contributed much to his fellowman, was often called on and consulted by neighbors and friends throughout the area, giving freely of his faithful service. He was well known for his assistance to any person in time of need. One of his outstanding attributes was to help the under priviledged, especially the Latin Americans. He was a tall, sturdy, very responsible looking man with strong and expressive features, fair skin, blue eyes and dark hair. His life was one of which his descendants in the state and nation can be proud. Walton greatly enjoyed traveling and after Rachel's death did a considerable amount of travel. A few years later he met a miss Octave in Mexico and married her two to three years before he died in 1920. He died at his home in the Bay, buried in Aberdeen Cem. (copied from pamphlet by Getha Gina Bell Thompson, now deceased)

Rev Anderson Clark, Walton's uncle, performed the ceremony for W A and Rachel
